When I “first met” Andrew Sallmon it was through my dive travel agent Jenny, from her Reef and Rainforest dive travel agent company. Jenny said it was a “must dive trip,” the 10 day liveaboard on the Bilikiki in the Solomon islands. “Not only is the Bilikiki dive boat and crew awesome,” Jenny said, “but Andrew will be on this 10 day trip and you can learn all kinds of underwater photography tricks of the trade.” So, how could I argue against this great adventure! I told Jenny to sign me up and boy she was spot on.
I have to admit I was a bit timid on talking to Andy cause I am just one of those shy guys. Not! But still here I was a real newbie of underwater photography. There is a special class for me under the novice section called the “green guy!” But with Andrew it was really easy to chat up a storm with him.
For sure I haven’t picked a 10th of his brain power about underwater photography but I sure learned a ton. What was really cool, after I piped up saying in one of our chats with other divers one evening on the Bilikiki that I didn’t like diving the Bahamas because of no big fish, I was invited to go on a trip with him. Andy invited me to go on a trip this January with him and other divers to swim with the “big boys,” the sharks. I told him I would go on one condition that he wouldn’t laugh at me if this adult guy peed his wet suit when those sharks were swimming all around me. “No worries,” Andrew said. We all have done that in the past when we first had those sharks all around us.
I am very blessed to have Jenny allow me the privilege of meeting up with Andy. I hope I get to do a lot more dives on Andy’s diving adventures. Check out Andy’s web site at www.seait.com. Andrew is an awesome marine photography and if you can catch up with him on one of the dive trips he is on you will not be disappointed. I guarantee you that!
Cheers,
Diving Doug
