Have you ever anticipated an exciting vacation before? You know, the one where you are biting your nails to help the time dart quicker to that start line called “vacation day?” I waited four months for this! I even paid big bucks to go on this six day shark trip in the North Bahamian waters. The night before we had left Florida waters on a chartered blue water scuba diving boat. Now we were in the middle of ocean, in Bahamas waters with no land in sight, at a place called Tiger beach. But there were no tigers; as in the four legged ones and no beach to be seen. Was my coffee soaked brain playing games with me?
Nope this is what I signed up for. So with trembling feet, and that trembling did not come from the caffeine, I gingerly sunk into the clear blue ocean with all my dive gear and camera. So that started by six days of great shark diving. Jim Abernethy’s Scuba Adventures group was just awesome!
Was I scared? You bet ya. Was I terrified? Does a spoon make a person fat? No, I wasn’t terrified. I was petrified! But it was still fun. Kind of like the fun I had on a first date with that oh so cute brunette. But this shark dive trip was way more fun than that!
I can tell you I am adverse to danger but I am so so very glad I took this trip. I am not as brave as the rest of my new found dive friends that were on this trip. But I sure surprised myself with my new found love for sharks and being amongst those sharks, and all without me hiding in a cage!
Chow for now. I am gearing up for my next diving vacation somewhere in the wonderful world of oceans! Any and every diving trip is an adventure!
Cheers,
Diving Doug
