Indonesia!  Where is Indonesia?  You mean the island of Bali is in Indonesia?   The island of Java (which is in Indonesia) is the most populated island in the world?  Really, Java is more known for her tea than for her coffee?  I had a conversation with a Starbucks bistro a couple years ago and she only thought the word “java” was only related to coffee.  She did not realize it was also an island.  You mean the most Muslim populated country in the world is Indonesia?  Indonesia is really the fourth most populated country in the world next to the U.S?   Seriously, it is also the fourth most biggest country in the world next to the U.S?  No way!  are you saying the Komodo dragon is in Indonesia?   Orangutan is not an English world but two Indonesian/Malay words put together?  Orang = person.  Utan = forest.  Thus ” orangutan” means “person of the forest” and they reside in Kalimantan (another island in Indonesia), also called the land of Borneo.

Yes, these are the questions/statements I get from those I talk with here in the U.S.  I love my fellow Americans but seriously, America, there is more to life on this globe than America!  Yes, I love my country!  I served in her Army!  I would die for her!   But please, get a passport and travel.  Travel anywhere.  Travel often and travel for fun.  There is a wonderful world outside of the U.S!  As I share with my non American friends, America is really 50 countries wrapped up in one big country.  Each State can be as big if not bigger than an European country.  So I get it.  America is huge!  America is vast!  You don’t have to leave America to travel.  Yes, I agree.  But for sure learn a bit of the rest of the world because America, no matter how grand she is, is not the center of the Universe!

Indonesia, is my second home.  I love her!  I love her people! I love her cultures!  I love her languages!  I love her foods!  Oh, how I love her foods!!  Every country has her good and bad.  I was blessed to be born in this country in 1967.  I lived mostly on the island of Madura, east Java, and the capital city of Jakarta.  I graduated high school from the Jakarta International School (JIS) in 1986.   I go back to Indonesia each year to connect with our employees, my friends, and for sure to do tons of scuba diving!

So I have decided to start taking more pictures of just Indonesia.  Of her people. of places in Indonesia, of her foods.  Of her cultures.  Indonesia is a beautiful country in so many ways.  I am so very blessed to have enjoyed her in this life.  I am so thankful to have wonderful parents who allowed me the privilege of being at TCK (third culture kid) as well as a MK ( missionary kid).  I  am so thankful to be able to go back each year and enjoy her, all of Indonesia.

Everything about Indonesia is awesome.  I can handle everything she brings.  Well, almost everything.  The heat is a tough one to deal with.  Yep, feeling like you are in a forever shower of sweat is not fun.  Hence, why I scuba dive.  I am out by cooler weather, and if I am sweating I can’t feel it since I am in the ocean! 🙂

So this landing page about Indonesia is my “home away from home” pictures I have taken during my trips to Indonesia.  Enjoy and if you haven’t been to Indonesia – as Nike says it so eloquently – JUST DO IT! 🙂

Chow for now.  Diving Doug
